Athens Airport to the Acropolis of Athens by Public Transport
Public transport is a convenient and budget-friendly way to transfer from Athens Airport to the Acropolis in the Athens city center. You can travel by the metro or by bus.
Metro
The metro is the faster of the public transport options. Take Line M3 (the Blue Line) to Syntagma Station, where you will change to Line M2 (the Red Line) to the Akropoli Station (just one stop away).
The Acropolis has two entrances. From Akropoli Station, the southeast entrance to the Acropolis is just a 2-minute walk, while the main entrance is about a 10-minute walk.
The Blue Line runs every 36 minutes between 06:10 a.m. and 11:34 p.m., and the journey from the airport to Syntagma Station takes about 40 minutes.
💡TIP: Keep your tickets safely for production in the event of inspections (which are frequent), and stay alert to pickpockets, who tend to frequent the metro.
Bus
The bus is another convenient way to travel between the airport and the city center in Athens.
The X95 Airport Express service connects the airport to Syntagma Square, from where you can catch bus number 230 to the Akropolē bus stop, from where the Acropolis is a very short walk. You can also catch bus 035, 025, or 040.
You can also walk to the Acropolis from Syntagma Square: the walk is about 15 minutes to the side entrance and about 25 minutes to the main entrance.
Bus X95 departs every 15 to 20 minutes through the day and night, and the journey time to Syntagma Square is about 60 minutes. Remember to validate your ticket upon boarding.

The Acropolis from Athens Airport by Taxi or Rideshare
You can also take a taxi from Athens Airport to the Acropolis. Although it’s expensive, a taxi is convenient and you’ll ride in a modern air-conditioned vehicle.
The yellow Athens Airport taxis can be found at the official stand outside Exit 3 at the Arrivals level of the airport.
There is a flat rate: 40€ during the daytime (05:00 a.m. – 00:00 a.m.) and 55€ at night.
The journey from Athens Airport to the city center, where the Acropolis is located, should take 35 to 40 minutes in normal traffic.
A note about rideshares: While rideshares such as Uber and Lyft are available at Athens Airport, the companies use licensed taxi drivers in Athens, so you’ll essentially be booking a taxi through the app.
Driving from Athens Airport to the Acropolis
If you plan to rent a car at Athens Airport, you can drive to the Acropolis in about 35 to 40 minutes in normal traffic (see map).
