Parking

Planning to drive to the Acropolis in Athens and looking for parking options?

The Acropolis in Athens does not have a parking lot at the site, and the streets right around the Acropolis are pedestrian areas, so you have to park a short distance away from the site and then walk.

Before we get into the details of free and paid parking around the Acropolis in Athens, we recommend parking your car on the outskirts of the city or at your hotel and using public transport to get to the Acropolis, or walking if you are staying somewhere close. Metro stations outside the city have parking lots that are very convenient.

Driving in the city is not easy, with hilly terrain, narrow streets, pedestrian-only areas, and limited parking.

That said, here are some options for parking near the Acropolis of Athens.

Free Parking for the Acropolis in Athens

Limited free street parking for the Acropolis, Athens, is available in the Koukaki area, from where it is a 15 to 20 minute walk to the main entrance of the Acropolis (see map).

However, a free parking spot can be next to impossible to find, especially during the day in high season.

Plus, street parking will also often be limited in terms of time, so you have to read the signs carefully and abide by the rules to avoid getting ticketed. Note that parking in blue or yellow zones is prohibited.

Unless you have loads of time and patience, or you arrive really early in the day or in low season, you will want to opt for paid parking near the Acropolis.
